:(

I know, UGA, I know.  Regardless of stats or hopes of championships, it's still sad.  Yesterday, after confirming that Mark Richt had been fired, or at best, mutually agreed to part ways, I felt like I had lost a member of my family.  I was irritable and sad.  And I promise you that comments like "He needed to go," or "He did the least with the most," only fueled that said irritability.

I can feel this emotional about this loss because Mark Richt was so.much.more than college football. Which in the end, was what got him fired with a 9-3 season.  Mark Richt didn't measure his successes by the number of games he won, but yet the amount of difference he made in the lives around him.  I loved the fact that people could hate my team, but not my coach.

I loved cheering for a team whose coach wasn't known for slinging his hat/clipboard/towel across the field, or mouthing words that my children should not hear.  I loved the fact that he took our kicker by the shoulders just before he attempted a game winning or losing kick and said to him "I love you no matter what."

As Georgia football season ticket holders and an alumni family, we are pretty sure that we bleed red and black.  We are proud of the job that Mark Richt has done on the field, and more importantly, off the field.  We may get a great recruiting class, or win a few championships, but I will stand firm that I think this was a bad decision on the part of my university!
